When it comes to residence life for students, Duke Kunshan University places an emphasis on creating a safe, heathy, and inclusive community environment to ensure that all students have a sense of belonging.
The mission of campus housing is to facilitate and support academic learning. Residence Life at Duke Kunshan provides living, learning, and social spaces which reflect a commitment to a living and learning experience within a warm and inviting residence community.
The residence hall is more than just a place to sleep and study – it offers an environment for community development, thematic exploration, and student self-governance. Life as a resident on campus at Duke Kunshan is a signature component of the liberal arts collegiate experience. To cultivate students’ intercultural competency and mutual respect, students from diverse backgrounds are assigned together in the same rooms and suites.
A number of campus leadership roles are available to Duke Kunshan students. Undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs) and Graduate Resident Fellows (GRFs) are recruited and trained to be peer mentors and serve as an initial resource to support students facing academic, personal, or social challenges. These student leaders also develop residence-based programs to promote community on campus, ranging from social to cultural to education. The residential programs are complementary to academic experience and facilitate inter-student and student-faculty interaction outside the classroom.
